Is It Safe To Undergo Dental Procedure When On Bactrim?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: Hi, I have taken Bactrim for on and off over 20 years. Repeat antibiotics for the past ten years (Cipro, antibiotics for cystitis, root canals, dental implants). 6 years ago due to grief was given Lorazipam, gabapentin, clonidine, and a dierectic for benign hypertension)
I have tried everything to stop repeated yeast infections and repeat bouts of trush. My doctor keeps prescribing more medication. I was walking around in a daze half the time and was unaware how bad things were getting. My sex life deteriorated to the point where I could feel nothing. My libido dissapeared and I became nothing more than a facilitator. The love of my life (of 15 years) ... Could not live with it and left. This past summer my sister visited and saw the radical change in me. She encouraged me to get off these meds.
I am now off clonidine and the dierectic alone works just as well to keep my BP in check. I am now down to 1/8 dosage of Lorazipam and 1/2 doze of Gabapentin and intend to keep slicing those pills down to nothing. The last thing that just came up is calcified dental nerves (which is now considered a possible side affect of Cipro). In 2008 I ad a dental implant that hit a nerve and damaged the right side of my mouth which has only partially improved. in 2014 while preparing for 3 more dental implants my nerves dissapeared on both a panoramic X-ray and dental CS). My dentist is afraid to go ahead with the procedure without a clear scan. The teeth on the lower left side of my mouth have been pulled with bone added, I have paid for a stent and now my dentist is afraid to proceed. So to sum things up..... Any suggestions as what to do regarding the implants? Or how to get rid of this awful whole body candia? (Fluconazole only helps for a few weeks, and I have tried natural alternatives, given up sugar, etc.). What should I do? The good news is that with months of research and slicing away, I am sleeping like a teenager, my mind is sharp and my libido is starting to return (albeit a little too late). I'm upset that Doc seemed to think that none of my symptoms were related to my meds. But that is unde the bridge... Sorry for the dissertation

Brief Answer:
Stay away from Dental implants for a while.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I understand your query and concern.

The list of symptoms you mentioned are possibly related to the intake of many drugs which had impact both on your cognition, sexual life as well infectious fungal complications related to excessive antibiotic use.

Its pretty good that you have been tapering doses of Lorazepam and Gabapentin.
Its a very good news pertaining top the return of libido and sharpness of mind in your case.

Pertaining to Dental implants I strongly advise you not to have one more since in presence of nerve destruction evident on scan ,there is a high possibility for the flaring up of oral fungal infection/thrush due to overt foreign body reaction to implant.

This can worsen the overall picture of yeast infection leading to possible dental sepsis, that can prove detrimental to your health.

Hence I recommend you to stay away from them for a until the fungal infection clears.

I also strongly suggest Mycostatin Oral Suspension 4,00,000 to 6,00,000 units per oral 6th Hourly swish in the mouth several times and then swallow.

This Mycostatin can be taken along with Fluconazole 200 mg once a day for 7 days followed by 150 mg once a week for 4 weeks.

Please consult your physician with regards to above.
Thank you.
