Is It Safe To Take Viagra With History Of Coronary Bypass Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: Im a 66 year old male, have had a coronary bypass 5 years ago, and prostate cancer 10 years ago. I'm in good health, exercise regularly, just had an annual physical with no issues. My wife passed away 18 months ago. I want to start dating. Im not after an intimate experience necessarily but if it does happen, I'm concerned about ED. Id like to try Viagra or Cialis to see if/how it works. Do I need a prescription to get that? And what do you recommend?

Brief Answer:
You should take a prescription first

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

some of the drugs we use in coronary artery disease have a similar action with viagra and cialis. Using viagra (or cialis) on top of your standard regimen may cause hypotension and symptoms of faintness or syncope, particularly if nitrates are part of your regimen. Actually both of these drugs may cause such symptoms even if you don't take any other drugs. Since you already have vascular disease, you'd better consult your cardiologist regarding their use. Your cardiologist is the best person to give you personal advice. General advice does not apply to every individual!

If your cardiologist does approve their use, I would recommend starting from the lowest dose and escalating according to their efficacy and potential side effects.

Kind Regards!
