Brief Answer: Reosteo is mainly indicated in post menopausal, and senile osteoporosis Detailed Answer: Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your mothers health query and following are the considerations worth mentioning. 1. diabetic osteopenia: decreased bone formation is one major cause leading to reduced bone mass in diabetics, which is more with type 1 diabetes and lesser with type 2. [however if she is taking Insulin injections along with tablets she comes under type 1 resulting in relatively decreased bone mass, and increased fracture risk] because of the absence of the anabolic effects of insulin. [since no information is provided on the type of diabetes and is her blood sugar under control or not] 2. since duration of shellcal is not provided thus it is not possible to comment that whether low values are due to some resistance or time period [blood level required] is not achieved till date. 3. going by her age [60 years] she fits under Senile Osteoporosis (type II) but also look out for following risk factors [if any] which might be complicating the picture: 1. Age: 50 years or more [possible] 2. Sex: female [possible] 3. Menopause [possible] since protective action of estrogen is lost 4. any positive family history of the same? 5. reduced weight for height. 6. sedentary life style? 7. any addiction? 8. Thyroid/parathyroid profile [since diabetes is one cause affecting bone mineral metabolism] 9. use of steroids, anti-epileptics, thyroid supplements, anti coagulants [if any] ?? PS. Reosteo is mainly indicated in post menopausal, and senile osteoporosis, [both cause and factor are there in your mother] thus can be effectively given in a dose of 2 tablet twice daily, followed by 1 tablet twice daily as maintenance dose. . take Vitamin D fortified pineapple, yogurt, milk, dry mushroom, banana, cod liver oil, . best prescription medicine which are effective against the pathology without disturbing sugar level are: XXXXXXX vati, shatavari, ashwagandha, amalaki rasayan XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ras, you can talk with your attending Ayurveda Physician regarding the dosage or I can courier you the medicine [ at your discretion] along with dietary regime and Lifestyle Management.
