Is It Safe To Switch From Marvelon To Mercilon Birth Control Pills?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 May 2014
Question: Hi I am currently on the birth control pill marvelon however I'm experiencing bad side effects of depression and night sweats. I am on my pill free week and have about 3 days to go before I start my new pack however I have decided that I need to change my pill due to the side effects. My doctor said that mercilon was a better choice however she said for me to start the new pack straight away and miss the 7 day pill free week from marvelon. I did not do this as I was feeling abit better for a few days on marvelon but now I feel worse again, so can I still change this week ir do I have to wait another month as I do not want to risk pregnancy. Also im abit worried about changing to mercilon as I have a history of acne and my main problem is also really oily skin which marvelon has helped but i'm worried mercilon will not help with my oily skin or acne due to being a lower dose. I would greatly appreciate your help. Kindest regards XXXX

Brief Answer: You can change the pill now. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. The response of birth control pills varies from person to person. Since you are now on a pill free period and still feeling worse you can change the pill to mercilon even now. This does not expose you to a risk of pregnancy as you were on the birth control pill in the previous cycle also. The response of mercilon on your acne cannot be predicted without actually using the pill. It is best to change the pill now and then see the response for yourself. Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Rakhi Tayal.
