Brief Answer:
Vasograin not safe in pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,I have gone through your question and understand your questions.
Vasograin contains ergotamine and is contraindicated in pregnancy with risk of birth defects and abortion or premature labor.
Migraine headache is mostly episodic and common in females. Treatment depends upon number of attacks and incapacitation.
Treatment is divided into
1) Acute symptomatic treatment: paracetamol is safe in pregnancy
2) Prophylaxis for migraine: Propranolol is relatively safe in pregnancy. Second choice may me amitriptyline.
3) Preventive measures: Proper meals at regular interval, adequate rest, good fluid intake. Avoid sunlight, chocolate and other identified triggers.
Ergotamines work specifically for migraine pain. But doctors advise against taking these drugs during pregnancy. They carry a risk of birth defects, especially if taken in the first trimester. These drugs may also stimulate labor contractions and premature birth.
I would suggest her to consult a neurologist and get appropriate treatment which is safe in pregnancy

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to cause abnormality in your case but be in regular follow up

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXX,
I understand your concern.
The reported incidence of fetal malformations is very rare and associated with multiple drug usage . Single dose half tablet is very unlikely to result in any such problem.
I will advice you to be in regular follow up of your obstetrician and undergo USG at 18-20 weeks for anomaly scan. Earlier USG as adviced by your doctor.
I will again emphasize that its very unlikely to cause any problem in your case.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Wishing you good health.

Dr Deepti Verma.
