Question: I am a 32 year old male.
Have had tough time with my sleep from last 4-5 years.
4 years back, was using alopathic tablet which was addictive drug and had tough time quitting it.
XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ayurveda's XXXXXXX XXXXXXX helped me.
And have been taking it since last 3 years.
I am worried if it has any other permanent side effects.

From last 6 months, having trouble with my sleep again.
Visited XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ayurveda hospital and they suggested me to use Sarpagandha tablet.
2 tablets daily before sleep for 21 days.

Is it safe to continue any ayurveda tablets for life long?

Please note that I have migraine head ache.

Can you please help me with this question?

Thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Preventive Aspect

Detailed Answer:
Dear

Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following is/are recommended guidelines:

1. Since Sarpagandha tablet contains drug as a whole and not as single alkaloid thus is free of side effects and any untoward reaction.

PS. Some patients have reported features like dizziness, depression with use of same which can be due to hypersensitivity to any drug in the formulation and if you experience the same you can shift to "Prabodh Vati"

2. Avoid caffeine (four to six hours before bed time)
. make sure your room environment is quiet, dark and cool which can help promote sound sleep. (keep computer/TV and other work material out of room)
. avoid physically (exertion) and psychologically (emotional) activities which can cause the body to secrete stress hormone "cortisol" which is associated with increased alertness.
. take dinner 2-3 hours before bedtime and avoid food that causes indigestion.
. avoid afternoon napping to prevent late night awakening.
. looking at clock in youe bedroom can actually increase stress, making it harder to sleep ( turn your clock face away from you)
. Take: banana, black grapes, orange, spinach ginger, tomatoes, curd, vitamin C, and vitamin E which are rich in antioxidants
. Lemon juice mixed with sugar in a glass of water help release stress hormone from the body and bring mind at peace/rest.
. rub castor oil in palms and feet
. before retiring to bed wash your mouth, head, back of neck, both ears and legs with cold water
. To neutralize any adverse effect of Sarpagandha combine it with brahmi vati and take as:

Brahmi vati:2
Sarpagandha vati:2...at bed time with milk.

Is it safe to continue taking these medicines life long?
Looks like I wont be able to sleep again without these medicines..

How different is XXXXXXX vati from XXXXXXX kalpa?
both seems to have same ingredients.

I have got a problem "rhinitis medicamentosa"
Doctor has prescribed 1 month steroid nose drops.
If not going to recover, will have to do a surgery. Is there an ayurvedic remedy for "rhinitis medicamentosa" ?

I also happen to have bend of nose bone.

Please suggest.

Thanks,

Brief Answer:
diet/medicine on line of jeerna pratishyaya

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back.

1. As there is not much of difference between therapeutic action of both the drugs you can continue with XXXXXXX XXXXXXX tablets and NO there is no dependency/side effect of drug on long use.

2. Rhinitis medicamemtosa (RM) itself ia related with rebound nasal congestion with use of nasal sprays which eventually cause PERMANENT tyrbinate hyperplasia (either DNS or bend of bone) which is a surgical case and best treated surgically.

PS. Wait and watch for 1 month with use of Steroidal nasal spray is required.

3. Avoid : heavy slimy and acidic food,curd, mustard oil,excess physical exertion, sunlight/dust areas,exposure to strong winds,day sleeping,smoking,potato, green leafy vegetables,cold water/food.

Take: old brown rice, soup, black grapes, cow's or goat milk, garlic, lukewarm water to drink, black pepper, dried ginger, honey, mulethi, launga.

4. Take raw ginger + raw turmeric (2 gm each) and fry in cow's ghee (6 gm) and thereafter add 6 gm jaggery and take at bed time.

5. Successful prescription for initial management of RM will be:
. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ras
. Shringa bhasma, shusha man shila
. Madhuyashti/sitopladi churan
. Chitrak haritki, vyoshasi churan.

6. In Ayurveda we hold that Nose is the gateway to head, thus start practising NASYA (ERRHINE THERAPY) after consulting an Ayurveda Physician (with shadbindu taila) and deep breathing exercises (Anulom Vilom).
