Question: Hi, my wife has been receiving fentayel patchs for several years, our dr is telling us we must use a pain management dr for this now since there has been changes in the control of this medicine. is this true?
help me with some details on how our dr can continue this treatment. I understand there are concerns about abuse and people selling these drugs, that is absolutely not so in our case, she has had 4 back surgical procedures and is always in pain.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear that your wife has been diagnosed with severe back pain and needs Fentanyl patch for control of her pain. It is unfortunate that most states have now changed the management of none cancerous pain. Most family doctors and internists no longer can keep proper documentation and management of patient for high dose opiate pain medication.

Your primary care doctor should be able to refer her to a specialist in pain management. If they can not then you may need to look on the internet or yellow pages or with your insurance company.

Good luck in finding her care
