Is It Possible To Get Pregnant Post Partial Hysterectomy?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Apr 2015
Question: I am 57 years young, my husband is 48. This is the second marriage for both of us. Back in 1981 I had a tubal where they "cut" and "tied" my tubes. In 1992 I had a partial hysterectomy due to endometriosis, where they took one tube and one ovary. My husband had a vasectomy in 2003. We desperately want a baby. Is it medically possible to have a baby considering the procedures that we have both had? We also have been told that even if we could not "conceive" the 'normal' way, we may be candidates for having some sort of implant procedure done. (where our eggs are fertilized outside of our bodies then the embryo is put into me). Any input you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Brief Answer:
conception is not possible...explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
you have to understand the fact that you have undergone partial hysterectomy where your uterus has been completely removed and only a part of the cervix is left to prevent vault prolapse. So there is no way you can conceive as there is no uterus.
secondly you are 57 years and likely menopausal where egg production is stopped naturally.
The only option is if you have not achieved menopause which can be checked by FSH and LH hormone and AMH levels for follicular or astral count to see if you still ovulate or having delayed menopause , then your egg can be harvested and fertilised by your husband's sperm retrieved through TESA technique and then the embryo can be implanted into a surrogate mother's womb as you don't have a uterus. She can bear the child for both of you as in surrogacy, otherwise there is no chance that you can conceive, i am afraid.
regards

I DO have a uterus, only one tube and one ovary was removed, not my uterus. Husband has had vasectomy, so I am unsure whether his sperm would be viable or not.
Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
" In 1992 I had a partial hysterectomy due to endometriosis,"this meant removal of uterus. if you have uterus then there was no hysterectomy at all.
now if you have uterus and if your eggs are being produced which is unlikely as i believe your menses would have stopped already, then you can get an IVF procedure done with his sperms after a sperm analysis.
Else you can opt for donor eggs and fertilisation by your husband's sperm and then implantation into your uterus under exogenous hormonal support through out pregnancy. You need to discuss in detail with regards to the protocol of treatment to be followed with your physician and then take an informed decision.
