Brief Answer:
Get done ultrasound examination of chest.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
In my opinion you should first get done ultrasound examination of chest to know
1. Is it pleural effusion or pleural thickening?
2. Exact amount of fluid.
3. Echogenicity of the fluid.
4. Septae present or not.
Sometimes, at the site of surgery, healing occured in the form of pleural thickening. This looks similar on chest x ray but can be easily differentiated on ultrasound.
And this thickening can also cause dull aching pain. So first , confirm that it is effusion or thickening.
If it is effusion then better to get done ultrasound guided pleural fluid aspiration to know the etiology.
Normally small amount of fluid appear after surgery as reactionary fluid. It is transudative and serous in nature. And absorb itself in 2-3 weeks.
So it is not common and normal to have fluid after 2 months.
We need to find out the cause for the same.
And infection is the most common cause.
So get done pleural fluid aspiration and send it for
1. Routine and microscopic examination.
2. Protein and sugar estimation.
3. Culture and sensitivity
So fluid after 2 months is not normal as it has to dry in 2-3 weeks.
We need to first identify the cause and start appropriate treatment and then you can expect 1-2 months time to dry the fluid.
Don't worry, this will heal but we need to find out the cause first.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
