Is It Normal For A 15 Month Old Child To Not Stand Unsupported?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: Hello, My 15 month old daughter cannot stand unsupported or walk. She does, however, cruise furniture and crawl. Her paediatrician says she will when she is ready but I am concerned because in the states she would have gone for PT at this point but we are in Canada now and the system is totally different. I want to know what I should be doing and what the problem is. Help?! Cheers

Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

Every child's development varies significantly. If your daughter is able to stand with support and cruise the furniture, then it's perfectly fine gross motor skills development. You can wait till 18months of age for a child to stand and walk without support. Thereafter, if she still can't then further evaluation for the motor delay will be required.
Physiotherapy is not useful unless and until there is definite delay as in cerebral palsy kids.
Hopefully this will help you. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help you out.
Take care
