Is It Necessary To Have Antibiotics After Cleaning Deep Wound On Leg?
Question: Female, age 53. 5'5", 165lbs. I had an operation to clean out my leg would 3 days ago. I was implaled by a dirthy 2.5" x 1.5" angle bracket from a broken hand rail. It was a deep would, but did not hit any artery. It was stiched up and I
was sent home, to be checked again in one week. I did not receive any antibiotic prescription when I was released from the hospital, which i find very strange, since I was told that if my leg becomes infected I will lose it. I have also been coughing up blood since the waking up from anethesia. At first the blood was red in color, now it is black. My torso feels as if I had been doing situps for 2 days. The doctor has not returned my call. The nurse at the hospital said I was not prescribed antibiotics to tak at home. Does this sound correct??
