Is It Better To Take Thyroxine With Eltroxin Or With Marvelon?

Question: birth control pills and Thyroxine
I have been taking Eltroxin (Thyroxine) for 3 years and my dosage has been fine the past 12 months. I am going to away for a week and did not want to have my period as it it would have been that week i went. I started to take Marvelon on the first day of my period 12 days ago. I feel like my Thyroxine dosage is now wrong as my legs are aching.
I changed to taking the Eltroxin in the morning and smithed the Marvelon to the night, this has been the past two days and still I feel my Eltroxin dosage is not quite right. I can't get a blood test this close to going away. Should I increase my Eltroxin dosage by half a tablet. Or change the Marvelon pill. I also have slight spotting still from staring the Marvelon 12 days ago.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Eltroxin dosage needs to be changed if the TSH levels are not in limits.

Do not even consider adding to your eltroxin dosage without proper blood tests. This dosage cannot be regulated based on symptoms only.

If you are still spotting while you are taking Marvelon regularly then you need to add progesterone to your current schedule 5mg once daily-Deviry. This will help in stopping the spotting you are having or you can consider taking additional one tablet of Marvelon in the morning for this cycle only. You can make these changes after discussing with your primary care provider. If the spottings repeat in the next cycles then you will have to consult your gynaecologist to rule out other causes of excessive bleeding.

I hope my answer and recommendations are adequate and helpful. Waiting for your further follow up queries if any.

Wishing you good health.

Regards.

Thank you for the reply.

As i am taking the Marvelon at night and the Eltroxin in the day will this actually make any difference to the absorption of Eltroxin, or not. Is it better to take the Marvelon in the morning with the Eltroxin.

I had only planed on taking it this cycle and the next.

When I am back from my holiday in the UK, I live in Thailand, I can get a blood test that week for my TSH.

Thank you for your quick and prompt reply.

Hello.

Thanks for writing again.

You can take both the tablets in the morning without worrying about interactions.

The change in the drug timings of marvelon is not likely to produce much of difference.

Hope my answer is helpful.

Wishing you a trouble free speedy recovery.
