Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: My son age 8 had a nasal bone fracture and had a closed reduction procedure done. We are scheduled to go on a spring break vacation late next week. Is it ok for him to play on a beach or in the pool at 18 days since the repair occurred?

Brief Answer:
Yes it is ok!

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Wound /fracture healing is very good and very fast in children and generally the fracture should unite within 2-3 weeks post surgery .

Since already 18 days have passed and you are going next week only , so i think it is ok and safe for him to play on the beach.

Just ask him to be a bit careful and avoid any deep pressure/blow on the nose directly .

I am sure he will be fine!

Take care

Actually the day he will be playing in the pool and beach will be the 18th day. Is this too soon?

Brief Answer:
Yes that will be too soon

Detailed Answer:
Hello

If it is the 19th day , then it is too soon and i would advice you to be careful and restrict him from playing in the pool.

The ideal time would be after 4 weeks although in children 3 weeks is also sufficient for the fracture to unite completely.

Take care!
