Is hypothyroidism heriditary?

Question: Dear Doctor,

I have Thyroid problem and need to eat a tablet called Thyronorm 125 daily., as suggested by Physician.
Is there any way to stop this disease? Does this disease pass on to my further generations too? Or why this disease happens?

Dear ma'm, hi! I understand the situation is difficult to accept but still the fact remains that the thyroxine usually remains for life. it does run in families and is more common in females. it is an autoimmune condition. it happens usually due to antibodies being formed against the thyroid gland which prevent its further working. so the gland is no more working and you need he replacement from outside in the form of a tab. regards!
