Question: Hi
I recently had a test (pin-prick "screening" test) for anaemia and my level was 12.6. My doctor told me it was "low normal" and not to worry if I was not experiencing other symptoms.
I do suffer from a sensitive digestive system and whilst sometimes it is normal, I am currently experiencing looser, flatter stools.
I am worried the two symptoms are connected.
Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic, I share your concern and I will try to help you out in best possible way.
The haemoglobin level of 12.6 can be considered almost normal as normal range for an adult healthy male is 13 - 14.5 g/dl.
Coming to your symptoms of looser and flatter stools, and sensitive digestive system, can you please elaborate since how long you have been experiencing these symptoms and how will they subside..? have you been taking any medicine for any other illness..? when did the current episode of loose stools start and how often do you go to toilet in a day..?
Get back to me with these details, so that I can analyse your situation better and help you out in best possible way.
Awaiting your response.

Hello

Thanks.

I have probably had the slightly looser (still formed - perhaps Type 5 on Bristol Chart) for about 10 days. I have had this before and things have returned to normal. I have not been taking any medication. I probably have a bowel movement between 2-3 times per day. There is no pain, visible blood etc.

The Hb (anaemia) test was actually in November. Since then I have had normal periods of bowel movements (Type 3-4 on Bristol scale) and also periods like now.

As I said before, I do seem to have a sensitive digestive system but have never analysed what causes the "flare-ups"

Welcome back.
after carefully noting the additional details that you have mentioned, I am of the opinion that, you could be having either malabsorption of few food items or it could be irritable bowel syndrome secondary to previous infection of bowel leading to improper digestion of food and resultant increased motility and occasional bloating.
I recommend you to visit a gastroenterologist and get clinically evaluated an undergo few investigations like endoscopy, as clinical correlation is necessary for confirmation of diagnosis and further medical management.
Hope this was helpful.

Regards.
