Question: Should a patient be discharged from ER with a heart rate 130-140, with stable labs...i went in with SVT heart rate 170 from N/v/abd pain, i have gastroparesis, i know it is chronic (i have been reminded a number of times) i was unable to keep my antinausea and pain meds down and as soon as the shot they gave me it will probably return. Do even chronic conditions require inpatient treatment from time to time...thanks the frustrated puker...ps i live in vegas and the nurse told me they were discharging all absolutely non-critical patients to make room for the multiple traumas they may recieve from the big Mayweather/Pakkau fight lol

Brief Answer:
A patient like this can be discharged from ER unless there are other problems

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Let me assure you that increased heart rate or SVT is not really a cause of concern. You need not worry about it and unless other definite indications are present, there should be no problem in discharging such a patient from the ER.

About the gastroparesis, the things to be done are:
* Take bulk forming laxatives and high fiber diet. This would reinforce the mobility of the gastrointesinal tract and help in relieving the problem.
* Take small but frequent meals.
* Regular physical activity and morning walk is essential.

Hope it helps.
