Question: I am mother of 16 months baby. I am breast feeding. Can i take Influenza vaccination? In our office its being offered to all employees and I have been asked to confirm if I can take if I am breastfeeding.

Hi...Please go ahead with the vaccine. It is safe while breast feeding. Actually logically speaking, it is good for the baby too because, if you are protected from flu automatically the baby is also protected as babies younger than 6 months cannot be given flu shots.

It applies to both flu shot and the nasal spray form of the vaccine.

Breastfeeding is fully compatible with flu vaccination, and preventing the flu in mothers can reduce the chance that the infant will get the flu. This is especially important for infants younger than 6 months old, since they are too young to be vaccinated.
