Brief Answer:
Diet & Exercise.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for your question.

After going through your question, I can understand your concern.

I want to know -
- Has she done only Fasting Blood Sugar level or OGTT (Oreal Glucose Tolerance Test).
- Any other tests done and their results.
- Her height & weight.

Considering her pre-diabetic status and strong family history of diabetes (both parents diabetic) there are high chances of progression to diabetes.

In such case I would have advised -
- Weight control : Try to achieve healthy BMI (Body Mass index) of less than 23.

- Diet : calories and fat restrictions.
Take adequate salads in meal.
Have lot of green leafy vegetables, fruits.
Avoid junk food (fast food), empty calories (soft drinks).
Increase intake of protein in form of pulses, soya beans, Kidney beans, egg whites.
Better to consult near by dietitian for appropriate meal planning according to her BMI & food habits.

- Exercise : Regular exercise (moderate degree physical activity) at least 150 min per week is recommended. Like aerobics, brisk walking, yoga.

Following test may be advisable -
- HbA1c.
- Lipid Profile.
- Urinary albumin creatinine ratio.
- Ultra TSH.

Depending upon her clinical examination and above test results need for medications can be evaluated.

Hope this helps her.

Regards,
Dr Abhay Mali.

Brief Answer:
Doing only FBS may be misleading.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

After going through your wife’s reports I would have recommended to do OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test).
Because-
1) Fasting blood glucose level may vary with duration of fasting.
2) Also labeling Pre-diabetes only on the basis of Fasting Blood Glucose level may be misleading, one can miss the diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes (2 hours post 75 gram glucose, blood glucose level > 200 mg/dl).

After that more appropriate opinion can be given.

Otherwise all other blood test results are within normal limits.

Hope this helps you.
