Is Dry Mouth An Indicator Of Salivary Glands Issue?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Aug 2014
Question: hi,
I've noticed that lately my mouth seems to be dry no matter how much water I drink. It seems like it gets worse when I lie in bed at night. also, I'
ve noticed a weird salty taste in my mouth. what could this be? I usually have to suck on sugar free lozenges to keep my mouth hydrated during the day. I have pretty bad allergies but I do not take antihistamines because it makes the symptoms worse. I've read some articles on the Internet that seems scary. .sjogrens etc... possible salivary gland issue's.

thanks! XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem yes there is a possibility of sjogrens syndrome and I think you should get tested for that . You should get ANA and ENA profile to look into this . A Schirmers test needs to be done to see for tear flow as in sjogrens syndrome tear secretion is also reduced .

You need to see a rheumatologist for this as parotid enlargement needs to be seen . Also diabetes needs evaluation . A HbA1c test needs to be done to see the sugar control .

Take care.
