Is Discontinuation Of Prescription Of Ambien Illegal?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 May 2016
Question: I would like to know if it is legal for my doctor to not refill my ambien he has prescribed to me for over five years?

And the heart doctor that he wanted me to see could only do the stress tests at either 9 or 10 am. But the only medicine he didn't refill was my ambien and I have read that it is very dangerous to just stop taking it cold turkey. it could cause all kinds of problems. Is this true? I even had my pharmacy to call him and tell him I needed it refilled and still no answer as to why.

Brief Answer:
He should nit stop cold turkey..can cause withdrawal symptoms!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this difficulty getting your Ambien refilled. It is nit the best practice to stop cold turkey because of the possibility of withdrawal side effects which after such a long time could be very serious. However, it is totally legal for him yo deny prescribing a drug. I will suggest you talk with him and get him to understand that you you’d prefer to get it tapered os than stoping cold turkey and he’s the only person who can help you with that at this point. I hope he gets to change his mind and help you get it back.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

He told my pharmacy he had just discontinued it, but is there anything legally I can do about it. He knows that I have smoked marijuana since 1969

Brief Answer:
Legally...Not much.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Legally, not much. This is because not all who stop cold turkey develop adverse reactions and you haven’t developed any at this time yet. Also, it is his right to prescribe or not, so it will not really take you any where.

I will say, monitor and if anything abnormal comes up, report and get consulted. If he’s not willing to help, some other physicians might in his place.

Keep me posted with the evolution of things.
