Is Difficulty In Opening Eyelids Post A Pacemaker Surgery Indicative Of Apraxia?
Question: My father is 68 years old. in last april he underwent pace maker surgery. since then he is facing eyelid dropping. On some days it just disappears but on others he faces problem in opening his eyelids which get closed for few sec. i searched on net and came to know about apraxia of eye lid. is this the case? is there any cure for it.

ya he has all the three. as far as diabetes is concerned it remains under control. but he takes medicines for it.

As per your given history , the possibility of ALO -Apraxia of eyelid opening is present.
This can sometimes be related to a brain lesion or sometimes it can occur as an isolated condition.
Isolated ALO has good outcome.
This condition can be treated both medically as well as surgically.
The decision can be based on further testing. It's very important to rule out any brain cause through an MRI brain.
Additionally EMG(electromyography) is required for 2 eye muscles LPS and OO to confirm this condition and to start treatment.
ISOLATED ALO responds well to botox toxins and drugs like levodopa or valproate.
Please check with your physician If he shares my view and If can prescribe these tests and drugs to your father.

thanks for the reply. i will discuss it with our doc. just wanted to know, it it a serious problem? actually the neuro surgeon we referred to was not able to make out the reason for such eye dropping. he says it ptosis.
