Question: Hi Dr Chawla. I am a 35yr old women, happily married and have a kid. Its 30th day from my last period and I did not get period still. After our first kid me and husband found out that we have beta and alpha Thalasemmia minor and we did not want to have any more kids as we don't want to pass it on.Luckily our kid is healthyby the grace of almighty. Now this morning when I used Pregtest by cipla it gave a faded line.So, am I pregnant. What Should we do?Please suggest. We really appreciate your help.

Brief Answer: REPEAT THE HOME PREGNANCY TEST. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for writing to us. First of all, I appreciate you for a GOOD decision regarding NO MORE KIDS due to having Thalassemia minor (both of you). Secondly, I suggest to repeat the pregnancy test with morning urine sample after few days or 1 week to rule out pregnancy. Blood test for beta-hCG and one Trans Vaginal Ultrasound will be worthwhile to confirm the diagnosis in the absence of period. Proper treatment or next step of management can be done only after ruling out pregnancy. You can consult with nearest Gynecologist after the test. Hope, it helps for your information.
