Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: My 4 year daughter underwent open heart surgery on 22 may. Since then she has been taking 5ml crocin every 6 hours. She was discharged yesterday but still has been advised crocin for one more week. She is not eating food properly so we are worried whether she really needs crocin 4 times a day or not when she is not having fever

Brief Answer:
Continue crocin

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
Crocin must have been prescribed to reduce pain and post operative inflammation.
It has nothing to do with appetite
I would advice you to continue crocin for a week as per your doctor's advice irrespective of fever.
Her appetite will improve slowly. It takes sometime to recover from hospital admisssion for open heart surgery .
Wishing your child great health

Thanks a lot
She is constantly coughing which doctor whom we called yesterday said is most likely due to throat irritation which might have happened due to rice tube which was placed during surgery. They are not giving any medicines and said this will slowly subside on its own. Can you advise anything which will relieve her throat irritation

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
Try plain cough syrups

Detailed Answer:
Try plain cough syrups like relent or tixylix 3ml thrice daily which will help in decreasing the cough.
It should settle soon as your doc mentioned.
Give her warm liquids to drink.
