Colistipol is not a statin drug . It comes under category of Bile acid sequestrants, which shows its action through the inhibition of cholesterol transport by the bile acids .

Normally after digestion of fats, they are transported into the blood stream by a special way through the bile acids known as micelles.
colistol inhibits that process.

statins acts through different mechanisms by inhibition of cholesterol synthesis by blocking the enzyme HMG CoA .

side effects of colistipol are mainly gastric related like Abdominal bloats, constipation, steatorrhea.
