Is Chemoradiation Better Than Chemotherapy When Having Gall Bladder Cancer?

Question: Dear Sir, 

My father age 62 has been diagnosed with gallbladder cancer and stage came t2n1 after the laparoscopy surgery biopsy done. After that he went for radical cholecystectomy and again two nodes of porta heptais came positive out of six and rest section were free.

Need opinion whether Rt+ ct or Only chemotherapy is required. As we have heard both have equal results.

Kindly help us to take decision.

Actually nobody knows the right answer. But as lymph nodes positive, we prefer chemoradiation. Most International experts do.

It may give better survival.

Thanks for the advise. Can you also advise what precaution to be taken during chemoradiotherapy and also chemo doctor told us to start with oral for 25 days along with radiation. so which combination is better oral or intravenous. moreover can you share any survival experience of anyone with same disease.

capecitabine oral chemo with radiotherapy

After that only intravenous chemo with gemcitabine cisplatin.

Precautions- take only home cooked food, maintain hygiene and any problem report to doctors.

Yes there are many survivors.

Few more points to check.

1) how many cycles of radiation and tablets should be given per day.
2) intravenous can be avoided in any case, if not how much cycle will they give and hoe oftenly.
3)what test and scan to be taken during this course.

25 fractions of radiotherapy over 5 weeks seems reasonable. Along with that capecitabine tablets on the days of RT

Intravenous to be started after 3-4 weeks of completion of RT, 4-6 cycles total every 21 days

CT scan abdomen every 3 months to be done.
