Is Chemical Hair Straightening Safe For A Breast Feeding Woman?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Oct 2014
Question: Hi doctor,

I delivered my second baby through a C-sec surgery on 17th july. I am partially breast feeding him now (supplemented with formula milk).
I have a function at home, can i get Hair Smoothening/Straightening session in the beauty parlour for the same during this time. Is it safe for the baby?
Kindly advise.

Brief Answer:
yes you may

Detailed Answer:
hello ,
thanks for trusting health care magic.
well considering your query regarding hair smoothening/straightening for the function at home, its perfectly safe and is not going to affect your feeding pattern and C-section wound healing in any way.
secondly , my further advise regarding breast feeding would be , it is often seen that mothers tend to rely on formula milk for their babies even before 6 months, but ideally baby should get exclusive breast feeding till 6 months. formula milk can be resorted to only when there is inadequate breast milk production .

Thanks.
