Is Breastfeeding Advisable While Treating Glaucoma?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Dec 2016
Question: Hi. Currently I have Kerateconus on my right eye very severe and my left eye I got it treated with cross linking 8 years ago. I went to have a general check up and the doctor has detected glaucoma on my right eye, and my cornea on my right eye is very very thin.

I just wanted to ask how long does the treatment take for glaucoma?

I am pregnant currently so can only do treatment after. Also is it possible to breastfeed while doing treatment for glaucoma.

One more thing the doctor suggested a c section due to my eyes being very thing and a fear of pressure rising in the eye. Is that correct?

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
Preferably go for caesarean section

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Yes, you can breastfeed while taking treatment for glaucoma, whether medicines or surgery

The duration of treatment for glaucoma depends upon the intraocular pressure and the severity of glaucoma, and the response to the medical management. It's difficult to predict duration of glaucoma treatment. If the medical management is not successful, then the surgical treatment is available.

Yes, it is safer to go for the caesarean section as pressure in the eye increases during labour and labour pains, and that can damage the eye in your case. You should go for an elective caesarean section rather than normal delivery.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Normal

Hi dear,
Fetal movements in first pregnancy usually occur at 20-22 weeks.
