Posted on Wed, 10 May 2017
Question: Hi,

I am a patient of high BP, my Doctor told me that it is a genetic issue as my health checkup reports was okay. He prescribed me "Cresar-20mg". Before taking this medicine my BP was around 137/87 and after taking(for 10months) it's slightly increased and went around 145/90 so I stopped the medicine and start taking Ayurvedic medicine but that also has not make any effect. Then from last week I have started taking Amlopres-AT 50mg on alternate day(after dinner) but it dramatically reduces my BP from 155/97 to 116/73. From last 9months my BP was around 155/97. As I am not habitual of such low BP I feel dizziness and weakness in the morning.
One more thing I have started exercise and yoga from last 1 month, so this also help me to lower my blood pressure.
Kindly suggest me some medicine to control my BP. My age is 35Years and weight is 60Kg and height is 177cm.

Brief Answer:
Take only amlodipine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query!

Blood pressure has been classified into five categories according to JACC.

Normal blood pressure < 120/80 mmhg
pre-hypertensive stage is 120-139/80-89 mmhg
grade 1 (mild ) is 140-159/90-99 mmhg
grade 2 (moderate ) is 160-179/100-109 mmhg
above that range, is severe hypertension.

As age progresses the blood vessels loses their elasticity due to age related changes and atherosclerosis(fat deposition ), henc blood pressure increases with age and it's natural .

Your blood pressure 155/97 comes in stage 1 mild systolic and stage 1 mild diastolic hypertension.
Start taking only Amlodipine 5mg (Minimal optimal dose) its a dihydropyridine group of calcium channel blocker and is very safe and is very well tolerated by patients. It has minimal effects on electrolytes.Monitor your blood pressure once every third day.Target blood pressure should be some what around 130/85 mm of hg.Stop taking atenolol its a beta blocker and is not first line therapy for hypertension.

Some general suggestions are-
Walk 20 minutes a day at a speed not less then 5.1km/hr.
Exercise 40 minutes a day for atleast 6 days a week.Exercise should be strenous and you should start perspiring within 10 minutes.
Don't eat red meat and egg yolk.
Restrict salt to 3 grams per day.
Take 1 cup of seasonal fruits daily.

Regards.

Thanks Doctor!

One more thing... At home we are using Sendha Salt instead of normal salt for cooking from last 3-4months. Is it okay?

Thanks!

Hi again,
Sendha namak is a non purified version of common salt.
