Is Blood Pressure Of 160/70 A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Thu, 23 Feb 2017
Question: My mother is 76 years old, she usually has blood pressure as 160/70 or at times 160/64. Therefore there is almost everytime higher systolic and simultaeously lower diastilic bp. There is no complain or problem in the body due to this. Sometimes 170/70 also then it becomes little tenseness. She takes amlopress-5 in the morning and amlopress-2.5 in the evening, this lowers, upper bp to 150 but at the same time it decreases lower bp too. What are harms of such a higher upper and lower below blood pressures. What is cause of this status. What is remedy ( allopathic and home remedy) to increase the lower.

Brief Answer:
Higher bp needs to be controlled and not harm of low lower bp

Detailed Answer:
hello,
These are age related changes and Called as isolated systolic hypertension. There is no harm of low lower bp, called as diastolic bp, even if it's goes below 50. But higher bp called as systolic blood pressure needs to be controlled.
Also, measures to decrease blood pressure is a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty, oily and high calorie diet. Have low salt diet and monitor blood pressure regularly thrice a day for one week then once or twice a week. Most of the readings should be below 140/90 mmhg. Regular exercises like brisk walking, just walking according her capacity atleast 30 min a day and 5 days a week. Lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, fish once or twice a week, avoid meat. There shouldn't abdominal fat deposition or obesity. Get your lipid profile and sugars tested once..
If doesn't help, her amlopress in the evening should be increased be increased to 5. The measure to increase the lower will also increase the upper bp, there is no benefit of increasing lower and there is no harm of low lower bp, so not to worry about it.
