Is Accidental Ingestion Of Budesonide And Foradil Harmful?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: I was giving my child a neubilzer treatment prescribed by his asthma doctor of budesonide inhalation and foradil. His doctor had told me to mix the two in a vial. I had just turned it on and my child wanted a napkin so I told him he would have to hold the mouth piece. As I was walking back to him he started shaking the vial that is connected to the mouth piece and all the liquid came out of it. I hope that the liquid did not get in his mouth but what if some did? Should I take him to the doctor? I just panic because I know that medicine is only for inhalation only.

Brief Answer:
Don't worry too worry much.

Detailed Answer:
Hello there, thanks for your question on HCM.

In my opinion you don't need to worry about this. As it will not cause any problem for your child.

It will only give bitter taste in their mouth. And even if your child swallowed it, it will be taken care by gastric acid. Acid neutralises it so it will not create any trouble.

So better to rinse his mouth with clean water 5-6 times, so that drug if present in the mouth, can be removed. The bitter taste can removed.

So nothing will happen if he accidentally swallowed some of the drug. And no need to take him to the doctor. Be relaxed and calm.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
