Question: Can I safely stop cold turkey the meds my Doctor has me on?? Testosterone 1/2 ml every four days. Anastrozole .5 mg every 4 days also. nature thyroid 97.5 mg in the morning and 48.75mg in the afternoon. Progesterone 0.25/0.5 at bedtime ?
Brief Answer:
The thyroid hormones usually need to be taken lifelong.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking on HCM!
The medications, that are life-threatening, if stopped abruptly, are the corticosteroids that is why gradual dose tapering is necessary.
None of these is life- threatening if stopped immediately but you will have the signs and symptoms you had before starting the treatment if you stop them immediately even also if you tapper the dose.
Usually the low thyroid ( hypothyroidism) treatment is lifelong and is not recommended to be stopped.
Hope the information will help. Feel free to discuss further.
Kind Regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

I have been on the nature thyroid for about a year now and I have lost my sense of smell, I think, from that medication. I accidentally was prescribed 4 times the dose I was suppose to be on for two months and usually when I need to get my prescription filled it is a few days without being able to get a refill. For one reason or another. My THS is all over the place. I guess I need to see a new doctor?
Brief Answer:
Please attach the result of the TSH.
Detailed Answer:
Welcoming back!
If the TSH level is within the normal ranges under treatment, than it means that you are at the right dose. If you think that have taken more than prescribed than the TSH level would ne under the normal ranges.
For more information regarding to this concern you may attach the results of the TSH levels and the total dose of nature thyroid you have taken and for how long.
Hope it will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

Here are the reports I can find.
Brief Answer:
You should not stopp the treatment of thyroid.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your last TSH level done on May is within the normal ranges but there are alterations of Ft3 and Ft4 level. The TSH level prior to treatment ( i suppose) was high; 24 mUi/ml it means that you need treatment and should not stopp it.
I would advice to talk to your treating physician abot the possibility of changing the nature thyroid with levothyroxine.
The last one is more easily controlled.
Best wishes!
