Is A Small Cortical Cyst In Lower Pole Of Right Kidney Dangerous?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Mar 2016
Question: i have been recently diagnosed with a Small Cortical cyst in lower pole of right kidney
size - 19 x 15 mm
No hydronephrosis is present on either side

I never had any kidney disease or problem.

It was just in general checkup that this has been diagnosed and found.

The Values of Tests undergone in this regard are attached vide reports.

Urine output according to me is normal till now.

Local Doctor said it often occurs but nothing to worry,
maybe he is not competent enough on the subject.

Have not undergone any treatments TILL NOW.

My Questions:

- Is this dangerous.
- If it becomes big gradually what is the final treatment for it.
- Do I require any medication to shrink its size or maybe disaapear it.
- Are there any home or chinese remedies or medicines.
- What should i do to take care of it & how urgent is the issue for me.
- AND LASTLY why did I at all have this suddenly.

With Regards

Brief Answer:
Cyst usually not dangerous, no need to worry so much

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient, i am gladly answering your questions:

My Questions:

- Is this dangerous:
No in most cases a cyst that is regular and in the size in your case is a harmless condition
- If it becomes big gradually what is the final treatment for it:
First of all: these things grow very slow. Only in a small number of cases when it gets so big that the organ is endangered in its function or if it should becomes irregular then surgical removing is an option.
- Do I require any medication to shrink its size or maybe disaapear it:
No there is no medication required and available to shrink a cyst
- Are there any home or chinese remedies or medicines.
There is no scientifically proven home or chinese medicines to shrink a cyst available, but again: there is no medication necessary.
- What should i do to take care of it & how urgent is the issue for me.
Right now there is no urgent action necessary, good is to have regular ultrasound controls like very 6-12 months (or as your doc advises) to keep track of size and regularity
- AND LASTLY why did I at all have this suddenly.
This was probably there for a while already since cysts usually grow slow and you just haven't noticed it. The cause is not exactly known, cysts just happen, it can be genetically determined. Nothing you did wrong in particular anyways.

So just get regular controls and there is really no urgent need for action or overworrying about this.

Best regards

I just noticed that in the last ultrasound test in August 2015 it was of size 14 x 12 mm and then also I had forgotten about it . But now since it is 19 x 15 mm so have become worried. Is it growing at a fast speed than usual.
Does having alcohol daily or thrice weekly have any impact on the cyst.

Want to ask another question - is it safe to have a surgical procedure for removal of cyst when it becomes big enough . Also can the cyst be only removed from the kidney or DOES the total kidney has to be removed then .

I know some of my questions might be funny , but whatever is coming to my mind I am asking , hope u don't get irritated.

Brief Answer:
cyst surgery possible with remaining kidney

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

alcohol has no effect on this. A Kidney cyst can be surgically removed without harming the kidney, but it needs to be much bigger than yours and cause symptoms or develop irreularities. A very big cyst that is not irregular in appearance may also just get punctured with a thin needle from outside without open surgery. That way the inner cyst fluid comes out.

But for now the cyst is still comparably small so none of that is necessary. The growth difference at this point may even be due to variations in ultrasound size determination (can be 10-20% inexact due to the method itself and or different doctors who do the ultrasound also).

Brief Answer:
Yes normal life recommended. Back pain will get better with sports

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

yes normal activity and sports as you suggest is good and no problem with the cyst. The back pain often responds positive to exercise like walking and swimming also. Water intake approx. 2L per day is fine.

Can I have back pain in this size of the cyst 19 x 15 mm.
or is it some other reason maybe fat or other which is causing the discomfort and pain.
I generally have 3 ltr of water in a day should I cut it and bring it to 2 ltrs.

Brief Answer:
Back pain more likely muscular, 3L is also fine

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

a cyst in that size usually does not cause back pain, more likely it is muscular. 3L fluid intake also will usually not harm you.

Best regards
