Is A Lump On Head After An Injury Dangerous?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 May 2014
Question: Hi, my husband left our five month old on the middle of the bed and she fell off. She has a lump on the left upper side of her head that is squishy and I wasn't sure if I should take her to the ER to get looked at. She is a little fussy but I don't think she's acting unusual. No vomitting and she was cooing and smiling at me before I gave her another bottle. I just don't like the way her head feels and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thank you, XXXX

Brief Answer: Its better to take her to ER Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing to health care magic. It's very difficult to assess intracranial injury in the presence of a lump after fall in a five month old baby. It's better to take the baby to ER to get the baby examined thoroughly. Even if your baby is otherwise active with no vomiting, visit to ER is definitely warranted to ensure safety. Regards Dr Arun
