Is A ASO Titer Result Of 269 A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: Approximately 3 weeks ago, I developed an itchy bumpy rash on my upper torso, my neck, and behind my ears which dissipated within a week or shorter. After the rash, I had a mild pain in my knee when placing weight on it. I also had mild pitting edema in both ankles. I also had two very painful aphthuous ulcers on one side of my mouth which led to a swollen lymph node under my jaw. All of these symptoms have left, but I recently had an ASO Titer which came back at 269. My doctor is meeting with me tomorrow, but I wanted to ask if I should be overly concerned. Should I be worried about rheumatic fever?

Brief Answer:
No I dont think its rheumatic fever.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that I dont think its rheumatic fever, your ASO titre may be high but that doesnt mean that you are having rheumatic fever. I think this could be some autoimmune disorder or may be some viral infection that has subsided now. If you have any autoimmune profile done, or any other blood test please send that to me so that I can have a look and explain you better .

Thank you for following up with me, doctor. I forgot to mention that I had my sedimentation rate performed and that came back as 0. Does this change your assessment? If not, what type of autoimmune or viral disorder might you think I have?

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for reverting back .

Well ESR being normal suggests and lower down the chances of inflammation in body but does not rule out autoimmune disorder . Viral infection are many and cannot be pointed out out which one just on the basis of symptoms . In autoimmune disorder main , will be to rule out lupus which can present with rash and oral ulceration so ANA , ENA profile is highly recommended .
