Brief Answer:
Zyloric can reduce blood uric acid levels

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Zyloric (allopurinol) 100 mg is helpful in reducing the blood uric acid levels but it may cause flare up of symptoms due to uric acid deposits getting dissolved.

It has to be backed up with appropriate lifestyle changes such as controlling weight, limiting alcohol intake, limiting intake of red meat and other sources of protein and purines.

Hope that answers your question.

Brief Answer:
Restriction of protein intake is required

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking back.

I feel that even 3-4 pegs of alcohol per week would not be good for your health. Fried fish or any other source of animal protein is to be limited as much as possible as they increase uric acid levels. According to present recommendations, you need not eliminate plant protein sources like spinach, pulses, soya, carrots etc. and may be taken in small amounts. That is all I would mention.

In summary, animal proteins are to be restricted (if not eliminated), red meat strictly to be eliminated. Plant proteins are allowable in small amounts. Other food items may be taken in normal amounts.

I hope that with these dietary modifications, you would be able to keep your uric acid level in control.
