Brief Answer:
I would not recommend Dextromethorpan

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Majority of cough and cold in babies are self limiting. I would definitely not recommend Dextromethorpan for 5 month baby.
If the following criteria is fulfilled there is no cause for concern

1. Baby accepting feeds well
2. Respiration is quite and normal: There is no hurried respiration
3. Absence of high grade fever

I recommend the following
1. Exclusive breast feeding
2. Vicks vaporub: Rub it over the clothes, avoid rubbing directly over skin(skin is very sensitive of infants)
3. Normal Saline Nasal drops : 3 drop in each nose 6 times a day
4. Cetrizine drops: It is safe antihistaminic

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
