Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: My father had recent angioplast and is on medication having tablets of ecosprin 150mg,storvas 40mg,deplatt,metxl 12.5 mg.Taking pan d 40 mg for gas .Some days he feels better but some times he looks very tired and restless and tells he had some pain the stomach. Can he take ulgel/digene tonic for easy digestion along with the medicines mentioned above.Does taking the tonic for long term have any adverse effects.I suspect if he has any stomach infection/digestion problem.I am planning to do stool examination for him and what other tests are to be done to check if there is no stomach infection/digestion problem.Does taking the above medicines affect the stool test result. or should we stop any of the medicines before taking the test. Please suggest

Brief Answer:
Yes he can take

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Yes he can take Ulgel/Digene 10 ml Three times daily.
He is probably having drug induced gastritis.
These are safe medications only.
Endoscopy may be done to confirm the cause of abdominal pain.

The medicines he is taking will not affect the stool test result and he need not stop them before doing the tests.

Let me know if you're having any further doubts..

Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Both Ulgel and Digene are equally effective. Both are safe medications only.
Let him take Ulgel. He can take it with or without food. It does not interact with the BP medications.

He does not require an emergency endoscopy. So he can take the medications for relief. Endoscopy may be done later if required.

The stool test does not show anything significant. Stool normally contains some bacteria which are not disease causing. He does not need any treatment for it.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
