Brief Answer:
Safe drug to use

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX
Greetings from health care magic!!! I am Dr Thakker and shall be answering your question.

Storvas is atorvastatin which helps to reduce the lipid levels in thie blood. it reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol. it is taken at night time.

It is a safe drug. Common adverse effects are liver enzyme derangements and myopathy and they occur at high dose like 40 mg and 80 mg. They are not very common. LFT is monitored periodically and CPK MM enzymes to rule out myopathy as a complication.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.

My Tiotal Cholesterol - 255, Triglycerides - 230, LDL - 160, and the hs-CRP is 4.9. Do you think these readings are not too high and that I should not take medication? If you say I should take medication - then should I take Lipitor orZoaster instead of Stovas?

Brief Answer:
atorvastatin and fenofibrate both

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX

your lipid profile is out of normal range. I would recommend you storvas/ Lipitor for raised LDL level. Your target is 100 for the same. Storvas and Lipitor are same drugs from different companies.

I would recommend a fibrate like fenofibrate 145 mg once daily at night to reduce your triglyceride levels. Atorvastatin alone is not enough for raised triglycerides. Your target for triglycerides is less than 200, ideally less than 150.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker.

I'm taking 25mg Angizar once daily in the morning for my High bp but some days the reading is 140/90 after having taken the drug. Should I increase to 50mg? Do you think I am causing damage to my body by taking a low dose? If I take a high dose will there be side effects such as damage to the organs, etc?

Brief Answer:
continue same dose

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX

As per JNC 8 guidelines, your target BP is 140/90. This is already achieved with 25 mg dose of angizar. I would not advice you to step it up to 50 mg as we have achieved our target BP. One should always take lowest possible dose of chronic medicines. It can cause electrolytes imbalance, rarely cough if used in high doses.

I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Thakker
