Is STD Test Done 12 Weeks Post Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Thu, 1 Dec 2016
Question: I had excessive alcohol fueled oral and vaginal sex with someone one night when away from home on a business trip. Huge mistake. A couple of days later I started to feel sensations in the head of my penis, the urge to urinate was constant and my penis was rashy looking in general but no blisters. My penis head was purple in color and sensitive to rubbing against my underwear. I'm thinking STD right away and I freaked out.

I've since had four ten panel STD tests at three, six, nine and twelve weeks after exposure. Everything is negative yet I still have these same symptoms. My doctor and urologist both said I don't need further blood or urine tests. They both say the symptoms are psychosomatic due to guilt and shame. While it's true this situation has deeply impacted me because I have a wife and kids at home I still feel like I've got "something" because my symptoms are still present. After 12 weeks what could this be. Am I crazy?

In addition here are some other symptoms I have or am experiencing consistently:
- Tingling in my scrotum
- body aches such as stomach muscles hurting but my doctors say that is anxiety
- Feels like sinuses are draining but my doctor gave me an exam last week and said my lymph nodes are not swollen.

I'm terribly afraid of passing "something" on to my wife.

I feel like in general my body is fighting an infection.

I'm new to this so apologies for all the updates.

I wanted to add that I don't now nor have I had any burning sensation when urinating these past 12 weeks. I do however have a slight but noticeable delay when I start my stream and the stream starts out as something of a slight spray pattern instead of the tight stream I'm used to seeing but then it quickly transitions to a stream pattern.

Brief Answer:
You r symptoms are mostly psychogenic in nature

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts and history highlighted in detail the varied symptoms that you have after sex with unknown are mostly due to anxiety .

In view of absence of any urinary symptoms ,any urethral discharge and negative blood tests done 4 times over a period of three months post exposure I can state with certainty that you do not have any sexually transmitted disease nor UTI .

The discomfort in glans penis that you have can be due to mild inflammation and can be cured by taking anti inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily .

Hope I have answered your query .Please feel free to write if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you .

Thanks and Regards.

Thank you doctor for the reassurance and advice. Can you recommend any other course of treatment or OTC meds in the meantime to reduce the discomfort of the symptoms until I can get back to my PCP?

A quick few follow up questions if I may. I've only in the last couple of days really felt my anxiety levels subside to a near negligible level since I started the Zoloft regimen. I'm hoping to start feeling physically normal in the genital area as soon as possible of course. I'm anxious to return to my regularly scheduled life.

Given that I've spent three months in this extreme state of anxiety I'm just not sure how long that will take and how long should I wait if I don't see significant improvement before going back to see my urologist? Or do you think I should go ahead and see him to discuss your Diclofenac recommendation? Thank you doctor XXXXXXX

I don't have safety concerns with taking Diclofenac rather I was asking how long do you think I should wait before seeing my urologist to get a prescription for it assuming I don't improve on my own.

I am seeing a counselor for the anxiety. Thank you doctor.

Thanks again doctor XXXXXXX I appreciate the timely responses. Is there any plausible theory you can think of that would lead you to believe I may still have an STD or other bacterial infection? 12 weeks of symptoms is really beginning to wear me out mentally wondering if a test was wrong or something was missed. I know I'm struggling emotionally but I am finding it difficult to believe my psyche is conjuring up all of these continuing symptoms.

Also a question about genital herpes if I may. My understanding is the symptoms of an outbreak, especially after initial infection can last 3-6 weeks but then the they should subside. Is that correct. The symptoms I have most closely resembles genital herpes yet I've been symptomatic for a 12 week stretch yet my tests are all negative. Should I wait a few more weeks then do another round of tests? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You are inviting problems by over thinking ..

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up

All your problems are part of your anxiety .There is no rational behind having so many doubts There is no reason foryou to think about acquiring STD .

The genital herpes can remain dormant for many years without any symptoms .

You can get your tests repeated for your satisfaction .It is the only way to allay your anxiety .

It will be better if you consult Psychiatrist for counselling and treatment if required .
Thanks and Regards.
