Is Rabies Vaccination Required After Being Bitten By A Vaccinated Dog?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 May 2017
Question: Hi
I was taking my pet dog for a walk when he got bit on the nose by a very aggressive street dog. I immediately took him to the Veterinarian doctor but the doctor said not to worry as he had received his anti rabies injection just last month. 3 days later while playing with my dog, he playfully bit my ear. I have already taken full course of Rabipur vaccine 14 months back ( all 5 injections last February). Should I take them again? Can vaccinated dogs still carry or transmit rabies? Do I still have immunity from last year's Rabipur vaccine? Should I be worried?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Thanks for posting your query.

Well first of all you need not worry, there is extremely less chance of you getting Rabies.

Now you have 2 options :

1. Wait for 10 days and observe your Dog and if the dog starts becoming very aggressive day by day then you need to get Rabies vaccination again.

2. Straight away go for the Rabies Vaccination without waiting.

Among the 2 options I recommend the second.

Now coming to repeat vaccination , since you have already taken one full course last February , you just need to take 2 additional dose 1 month apart.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.
