Brief Answer:
MRI is safe and can be repeated multiple times.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thank you for the query.

MRI is a safe diagnostic tool. It does not cause radiation or any other side effects. Its because this method use magnetic field, not an x-rays. It can be repeated as often as it is necessary without any harm for human body. Moreover if can be done even during pregnancy.
But MRI has some limitations. It is not the best method to diagnose abdominal pain. Its because there is no contrast which can be given to see intestines.
Answering your questions MRI can not diagnose adhesions. Abdominal CT with oral contrast (called enteroclysis) can do that.
Hernia, inflammation or distended abdomen will be clearly visible in MRI.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

I m attaching my relevant info..pls check out doc and let me know my problem I m facing..what should I do

Brief Answer:
Intestine can be accidentally stitched to abdominal wall.

Detailed Answer:
I have read all attached documents and will share some conclusions.

1. There is no infection in your abdominal cavity. Post surgical infection is seen as a fluid collection or tissues increased blood flow along with fatty tissue swelling. There is nothing like that found in the MRI so giving antibiotics is pointless. Moreover, infection would give elevated CRP and WBC.

2. What has been found in the MRI can be a stitched to abdominal wall intestine or some large adhesion. It may be the source of abdominal pain, bloating, constipation.

3. Constipation and bowels problems can be also caused by antibiotics treatment. Please note that bowels are covered with good intestinal bacteria. When you take an antibiotic, this bacteria are destroyed and bad bacteria can appear. That is why probiotic should be given during antibiotic therapy.

4. Red stretch marks are not a normal thing. Healing process causes skin color stretch marks. Red stretch marks can be a sign of Cushings syndrome. If you have also hypertension, weight gain, weakness, sweating, this syndrome is very possible.

Here is what should be done in my opinion:
- Enteroclysis (special abdominal CT with oral contrast) - it can show intestine narrowing
- stool culture test
- endocrynologist consult and Cortisole secretion diagnostics
- Rifaximine treatment should be tried for bowels infection
- if CT result will be inconsistent, laparoscopy should be performed

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

thanks doc..dnt want go for high radiation like ct since I hve been thru the operation and feel vary weak and low immuned.ct scan will further damage my tissues and cells..can I go for abdomainal xray that shows picture of intestines or can I go for some other test that shows the actual condition with less radiasions
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (7 hours later)
Brief Answer:
CT wont destroy tissues. It is quite safe.

Detailed Answer:
Why do you assume that CT will damage tissues? Radiation is dangerous only in high dosages. It affects DNA of cells and can destroy them. But the dosage of such radiation must be high. High dosage radiation is called radiotherapy and used for cancer treatment.
Now CT gives only a very small amount of radiation. Similar dosage is absorbed from watching TV. And you do watch TV every day and see no side effects from that.
So CT wont cause any damage and wont weaken your body. You wont notice it at all.
Abdominal X-ray is also a source of radiation. Its the same technique.

So there is no better or other way to see small intestine. Large intestine can be seen in colonoscopy. But small intestine can be checked by enteroclysis. We do not have anything better.

thanks doc..does my mri report indicates that I have lesions, adhesions or endometriosis? ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
MRI indicates adhesions possible.

Detailed Answer:
Like I have mentioned before your MRI indicates that there might be intestine stitched to abdominal wall or some adhesions. But the point is to find out if this changes cause intestines narrowing. That is why enteroclysis is a good idea.

sir lets assume even if I have adhesions..what would be the treatmqent..will i be need to go for another surgery? I searched on net and it shows more adhesions are possible with more abdominal surgeries. .what should I do.I dnt have the strength left in my bodyto face all this again in a strech of 2 months
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (19 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Adhesions can be fixed with surgery only.

Detailed Answer:
If you have adhesions which are the cause of your symptoms, surgery is the only way to fix it. Its true that another surgery will cause another adhesions. But it is possible that new adhesions will appear in areas where intestines wont be narrow. We hope so performing a surgery.
Such surgery can be done laparoscopically. It is minimal invasive.
If you have problems with eating and digesting, without it you wont get back your strenght.
Please follow as advised in my second answer.

Thanks doc.how is laproscopy done??what is the best way of getting it done to avoid further adhesions and complications?? I m really worried a lot as I have a very small baby to take care of?? And will it be safe in such a span of 2 months as I guess my abdominal strength was weak from my childhood with a low immunity too
doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Not much can be done to avoid further adhesions.

Detailed Answer:
Laparoscopy is kind of minimal invasive surgery. Instead of large incision, few small incisions are done. Through this incisions camera and long tools are inserted to abdominal body. Camera is usually put in belly button area. Tools location can vary depending of surgical area.

To avoid adhesions, there should be done only what is necessary without touching or manipulating with other parts of intestines/organs. Complications depend of surgeon skills and how risky is operated area.

Every person has individual ability of adhesions creation. It is written in DNA (its genetic predisposition). And we can not do much to prevent adhesions. Thats a huge problem of modern surgery. Actually we can not do anything to stop adhesions creation.

You should not be worried. You even do not have diagnosis yet. Your life is not threatened due to possible adhesions. It just gives symptoms and can be fixed.
It is thought that 3 months span is the best time for another surgery. Its not because of abdomen strength or immune system weakness. Its because scar creation takes 3 months. So healing process is active in first 3 months. It is good to do not interrupt this process.
If you want to improve your immunity, please start probiotic supplementation.

Hope this will help.

doctor
Answered by Dr. Grzegorz Stanko (14 hours later)
Brief Answer:
MRI result wont be affected by your period.

Detailed Answer:
Period should not affect your MRI. Do not worry about that.
Bifilac HP is a good probiotic. No need to search for any better. And it can be taken even life long. So continue with it. It gives you immune strength and protects against infections.

Regards.
