Is HIV Rapid Blood Test Done At 86 Days Post Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Nov 2014
Question: I was involved in vaginal sex twice 12 weeks back(86days) and i got HIV rapid blood test after 1 month and today (86) days after exposure both came out non reactive. But 5 weeks back i done oral sex with that girl only breast sucking for 10 seconds but she had burn wound at the side of her breast which happened 3 -4 days before that ,there were black blister like fluid filled structures and i am anxious that my mouth might have touched there and then i had a cut on my finger at that time which happened a day before that incident and it bled when happened but was not bleeding at the time of oral sex.Does my that finger or my mouth put me at risk again or not? I saw no blood coming from her burn wound but i am anxious it might have. When sucking i saw no blood on nipple moreover.

Brief Answer:
Your HIV risk is low only.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

You had tested twice, that too negative after 12 weeks ruled out the possibility of HIV through the vaginal exposure. That indicated that the girl also possibly has no HIV infection. If it is so, then your breast sucking also unlikely to be infectious.

Even though there was no blood during that sucking the breast there could be oozing of body fluids possible which might contain virus. But HIV transmission through oral mucosa is rare. Moreover she was unlikely to be HIV, your risk is negligible only.

Thanks,I want to know about the risk from that burn wound? Is this kind of transmission common or very rare? Can you elaborate the risk factor from oral mucosa ,is it common or only theoretical risk?

Brief Answer:
Oral inflammation promotes HIV transmission.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

If an individual is a HIV positive, then the burns wound would likely be to become infectious. Burns wound would either have blisters containing tissue fluids or the skin loss which lead to oozing of tissue fluid. This may be infectious if that individual is HIV positive. If there is no skin loss or blisters, then it would be unlikely to be infectious.
If there is any ulcers, inflammation, infection or injury over oral mucosa (gum, lip, tongue, cheek, tonsils, pharynx) the chances of HIV infection is possible in the presence of a contact with infectious materials. Otherwise HIV risk through oral mucosa is rare.

Brief Answer:
Another HIVtest 12week after 2nd incident suggestd

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again.

A non-reactive test with another test 12 weeks after the breast sucking incident would relieve your unnecessary mental tension. So I recommend another rapid test 12 weeks after the second incident and rule out the possibility of HIV infection. Otherwise your mind will attribute HIV as a reason for any future small illness like a headache even.

Thanks sir, can u tell me more about the risk of hiv through cut on my finger ,it was not bleeding at that time and the risk you described sir of oral mucosa.Actually sir the burn wound was not on nipple so i didnt suck it directly so i want to know that the risk if oral mucosa is still there or not ? I might have touched it once (not sure) with my finger having cut so i m confused.MY finger had a band-aid on it at that time but i m not sure whether it was completely covering the wound or not.Sir i have read somewhere on internet that 90 days test is conclusive and my test was like 86-87 days ,does it make a difference? Also from 2 3 days i am feeling feverish and fatigued might be due to cold but no nausea .So i m anxious ,it has happened to me in short intervals before but may be due to anxiety but now with my negative test a m not that anxious so my question is can it be due to cold without running nose?

Brief Answer:
Test after 12 weeks confirmatory. HIV free.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

The risk of HIV transmission through cut injury of the finger is negligible.
If the burn wound had oozing, then there is a low risk through oral mucosa could not be ruled out as it could be dribbled and soiled up to the nipple. The negative HIV Antibody test done after the completion of 12 weeks after the risk activity is almost final and ruled out the possibility of HIV. Breast sucking also unlikely to be infectious. Not to worry any more. Consult your doctor for the feverish episode. You will be alright soon.

Thanks sir ,if there was no oozing then does it mean that i am not at risk? The wound was 6-7 cms away from nipple so could oozing be possible?after this incident the antibody test happened after approx 6 weeks so how assuring is this test for this oral behavior?Should i go for another test after month or 12 weeks is to be strictly followed as i want to know 10 -11 weeks are how much assuring?

Brief Answer:
HIV Risk negligible. Not to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
When there is no oozing from the wound then the HIV risk is negligible.
HIV test done 12 weeks after the high risk activity, is more conclusive and will assure you better than the test done a little earlier even though it would also be reliable. You can go far another test 12 weeks after the 2nd incident. I am sure that you will get a nonreactive result which reassure you better than with words.

Sir, i am concerned much because of these fatigued feverish symptoms i am facing from a long time. They are not severe but especially i feel them when i am not involved in activity. When i exercise i am totally fine for example.I understand 12 weeks test is conclusive and the other is very less risky act and these don't even remember typical ARS but i thought these stress symptoms would go after 12 weeks test but they had remained.Sir is it possible that past days anxiety period is causing these symptoms as i read somewhere that hormonal imbalance can happen due to anxiety .Is there anything i can do to remove these?SOmetimes i feel good and sometimes low and hot. What can be the reason?

Brief Answer:
Anxiety/fear for HIV can cause such manifestation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again.
Yes, certainly an anxiety syndrome can cause such manifestations.
If you have not relieved so far from your depression, have a consultation with a psychiatrist. He/she will be able to help you in this regard and you will be alright.
