Is Dermikem OC Cream safe for an infant?
This cream is not safe for infants
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have gone through your query and I have noted down your concern.
This cream should not at all be used in infants and for children as it contains a superpotent steroid i.e clobetasol propionate 0.05% which can have local side effects like skin thinning, atrophy, infections, acneform eruptions etc. Clobetasol propionate can also be absorbed systemically in significant amounts through the delicate infant skin and can therefore lead to hypothalmo-pitutary axis suppression in infants, specially if it is being applied over vast areas of skin.
Moreover it is not a fairness product and is not to be used as a regular fairness cream.
I advice you to immediately stop it.
For dry skin you may use a moisturiser e.g cetaphil moisturising cream/ lotion.
Will it get effect anything if we stop it immediately? then i request you to suggest few more suggestion on using the creams and lotions for baby skin fairness and dry skin, which do not have side effects for the skin.
Also please suggest the natural method for taking care of skin on daily and for fairness.
Thanks in advance.
You may use a physical sunscreen
You can discontinue dermokem-oc cream, from today itself.
Actually there is no recommendation to use a product for improving complexion in a baby as young as 10 months of age, this is because the natural color is yet to develop as the baby ages. Therefore it is not advisable. Nevertheless you may definitely use a sunscreen, particularly a physical sunscreen e.g Zinc Oxide based sunscreen (Sunscros Soft Sunscreen from Ranbaxy is one such product).
As far as moisturiser is concerned you may use either Cetaphil Moisturising Cream Or Elovera Baby Lotion Or Atogla Lotion etc
A sunscreen along with a pigment reducing cream
You must use a broad spectrum sunscreen e.g Sebamed Or Neutrogena sunscreen on all exposed skin throughout the day. Reapply every 2-3 hours, specially when outdoors.
At night you may use a pigment reducing cream, containing ingredients like glycolic acid, kojic acid, arbutin etc e.g Glyco-A (12%) cream Or Demelan Cream, over the affected areas.
As per your advise i have taken the Sunscros lotion for my niece, Unfortunanltely we met pediatrician yesterday and he suggested to not to use this cream, please confirm me that it can be used for baby or not, this is for continuation use for baby. if sure that it can use please advise the spf level? since i have taken spf50.
A physical sunscreen is safe for children; It contains Zinc oxide
I suggested SUNCROS SOFT SUNSCREEN (It contains 15% Zinc oxide) not SUNCROS LOTION. Kindly refer to my first reply.
