Brief Answer:
Hold Betnelan

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. Most likely cause of sore throat in this age group is viral or bacterial (esp. Streptococcal) infection. They need symptomatic management (and antibiotics only if suspected bacterial infection).
There is absolutely no role of steroids such as Betnelan for sore throat treatment. So, hold it immediately.
I would recommend you to start him on following measures:
- antihistamine such as Syp. T minic or Maxtra for symptomatic relief.
- Give acetaminophen for fever episodes and throat pain. You may repeat the same dose after every 6-8 hours if required.
- Start cephalexin or azithromycin if the sore throat is very severe and associated with fever spikes because this may be due to streptococcal infection which needs proper antibiotics.
- Give him warm water and other fluids such as soups, milk etc. Ensure regular healthy diet.

Hopefully it will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
