Brief Answer:
No big worries, same drug family, cautious
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,
Losartan and Benazepril have the same mechanism if action in reducing blood pressure. It is however important to note that changing choice of anti hypertensive drugs should be made by your doctor in case you experience a serious drug reaction.
If your blood pressure was well controlled with Losartan, it might not be very necessary to change the drug. However, these drugs do have similar mechanisms of action, and should for sure not pose serious problems.
I would suggest you take the Benazepril XXXXXXX as prescribed by your doctor. You might have to have more frequent checks of your blood pressure levels to ensure the drug works appropriately.
I suggest you stick to your new doctor's prescription, but do not hesitate informing him of any unusual events experienced, or permanently raised blood pressure values , at times extremely low values.
You really need not bother much as the two drugs belong to same drug family, but you just have also to be very cautious. Thanks and kind regards.
