Brief Answer:
Need more information.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to health care magic,

i have read your query and understand the problem.

Pulse rate is very low and blood pressure 109/46 is almost normal but here I would like to ask,

Is this pulse rate is constant or you have just noticed it today?
Is your husband having any kind of chest pain with uneasiness?
Have you done EKG recently?
What about the other investigations like lipid profile or TMT or 2D-echo of heart?

We can not assess risk about heart attack with only low pulse rate (32) but it must be evaluated further by these tests.

It could also be due to bisoprolol 5mg tablets which he is taking at present.

You may check it with your treating physician and if so,then doctor may reduce the dose of the drug.

Kindly get back to me with more information as I asked.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip

Low pulse is not constant. Later in the day, his BP was 169/74 and pulse 62.
He doesn't feel well. His stomach gives him problems. Will check to-morrow and see if he should visit his Doctor.

Brief Answer:
Possibly no danger of heart attack with this findings.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the reply.

62/min pulse rate can be considered as a normal and 169/74 blood pressure is elevated for which he can continue anti-hypertensive medications.

In your husband's case, bisoprolol 5mg tablet could be the reason of low pulse since it has a side effect, you should check with your treating doctor regarding the dose.

I generally reduce the dose of bisoprolol up to 2.5 mg in my patients.

But there is no need to worry as this is not a danger sign of heart attack.

However, periodic EKG testing and echocardiography of heart is advisable.Your doctor will know about it.

Hope this will help you.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip

My husband did see the Doctor this afternoon. Pulse was at 48. Took him off Tiazac
which I believe was the cause lowering the pulse rate. He put him back on 60 mg.
of Adalat. He also had EKG done and a blood test. Waiting for results. This morning, he was quite dizzie and our BP Machine wouldn't show how high his BP was.He seems to be feeling somewhat better. Thank you for suggesting an EKG.
No further questions at this time.
