Posted on Wed, 11 Jan 2017
Question: I just got a faint positive on a strep swab test. The physician wants me on amoxicillin for 10 days. Do I need to take the amoxicillin if this test is just a faint positive?

Brief Answer:
Dont think so

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
If you don't have symptoms of streptococal I infection such as fever, cough, throat pain and swollen lymph nodes, then this is not considered to be infection, but contamination. In this case, antibiotics are required only for pregnant women and if you're imunocomoromised. Wish you good health. Regards

Ok thanks- yea, I forgot to mention that I did present with a sore throat so that is why my physician insisted on taking the anti-biotic; should I increase my probiotic dose for the course of treatment and a few weeks post-treatment?
