Is Amenova Safe To Take Inspite Of Trying To Conceive?
Question: Hi Doctor,
I was prescribed to take Amenova 5 mg to get my periods in May, 2014.
I got my periods within a week i.e. 06-May-2014 and post that I haven't got my periods.
I have consulted the same doctor and did a UPT which was negative and now the doctor has again advised me to take Amenova.
Please advise if it safe to take the tablet as I'm planning for conception and do not want to lose on time.
My cycle is regular except for one thing that is every 6 months it is delayed by 45 - 60 days and in April - May it was the same phase.
I'm extremely worried as I do not want to have any side effects when everything was normal based on my reports for fertility in May, 2014.

1) AMENOVA contains NORETHISTERONE (progesterone component), which helps to induce period within 5-7 days.
2) You can TAKE the prescribed medicine SAFELY in NEGATIVE pregnancy test. Fetal organogenesis takes place from 5th week onwards. Therefore, it shouldn't be taken WITHOUT confirmation of pregnancy after missed period OR following POSITIVE pregnancy test to avoid virilization of female fetus.
3) It is NOT harmful if you are taking the medicine prior to MISSED PERIOD or realization of first pregnancy. It can be taken for inducing period while you plan to conceive after getting NEGATIVE test.
4) Additionally, both of you should take VITAMIN and FOLIC acid supplements for 3 months in preconception stage and thereafter.
