Is Albuterol More Than Four Times A Week Unsafe?
Question: I have read that using albuterol more than 4 times weekly is not good. I have been on Qvar 80mg 2xdaily(1puff each time) and Proair 2xdaily (2 puffs each time) to control asthma. Is this not a good idea to use albuterol daily like this to open airways before using the inhaled steroid? I do not have any attacks like I did in the past but I develop shortness of breath as the medications wear off in about 12 hours. I have had periods when I use the meds only once per day and have tried to wean off the steroid but it always goes back to the 2x daily regimen. I am concerned that I will be given some other noxious medicine that will make my asthma worse. I have undergone allergy testing & have triggers under control.

A clarification: You mention that it's safe to use Proair two puffs a day along with Qvar. I mentioned that I use 2 puffs 2 times per day. Does this change your evaluation?
