Is Adderall Safe To Take When Diagnosed With Bicuspid Aortic Valve?
Question: Hi,
I am a 21 year old male that has a bicuspid aortic valve (minor regurgitation), however there is none of the subsequent hypertrophy of the aorta that is usually associated with the condition. I last had an echocardiogram about a year ago, and currently everything is fine (I run regularly, have no trouble breathing ect.) Spaced out over the past 4 months I have taken adderall a total of 8 times (the dosage usually around 20 mg, though once in one night in January it was two 25 mg tabs equaling 50 mg overall). I have no prescription, I just took it to abuse it (sometimes with alcohol, stupid I know). Anyway, I have no interest in doing it again, I realize it is not ideal for someone with my condition. I am curious if this would have likely had any direct negative impacts on my heart; again I don't have any symptoms that would suggest this, but I am curious.

I read your question and i understand your concern. With history of heart condition of bicuspid aortic valve, use of adderall without prescription and in dose that heavy was not wise. But the good thing is you stopped using and and you used it for a short while.
Adderall is a stimulant just like amphetamines and may cause increased heart rate ( tachycardia) or swollen heart muscles (cardiomyopathy) but mostly due to chronic use. Just don't use it any more and if you feel like any problem or a racing heart, seke your doctor and let them evaluate your heart functions.
